I was so looking forward to continue our decent start to the league. Just look at our squad list below and for those regular players, they will agree that this is definitely near to the best squad we could have on matchday.
Unfortunately, despite the great start to the day, and after I had washed my car too, rain started to pour down when it had been sunny (I think) in the past week. This meant that our game at Bishan Park for week 2 of the league had to be postponed. Enough about the weather.
When the four of us (Rahman, Shy, Huda and myself) were somewhere near Farrer Park field, we decided to have a futsal run-out at FICO Jurong West after deciding that the time slot at The Cage at Kallang and the Futsal pitch at ECP did not suit us.
After some frantic calls to get interested players to come down, and also trying to figure out ways to reduce the cost of the booking of the futsal pitches, we eventually settled down on a solid core number of players. While travelling to FICO, Firdaus, Huang and Bay rounded up the hugely impressive number given that the information was disseminated at such short notice. It could have been for a match on a normal football pitch!
Indeed, we could have had a friendly match at 5pm at another pitch, the organizer for our league informing us that the team there needed an opponent, but we felt that since we were initially downsized at that point, plus some players due to come today had made other plans because of the adjournment of the league game, we felt we could not muster a worthy challenge and so proceeded to FICO instead.
At FICO, the initial attendance was already good. I did made a major gaffe before we began when I tried to organize the teams. I knew there were already 14 players, which translates to 3 teams, which in turn meant 2 teams could kickstart the run-out. However, only 12 were at the center circle for the schoolyard pick-me, the ever-late Rahman and the just-arrived Huang were actually out of the pitch, so we ended up with 4 players on two of the teams to face each other when we needed 5... My bad.
Made some quick adjustments and voila, we got the ball rolling!
Team 1: Firdaus Masdar, Imran, Kelvin, Khairul, Shafi, Syaifudean
Team 2: Amin, Bay, Fazli, Helmi, Karim, Omar
Team 3: Akim, Azman, Farhan, Huang, Rahman
Kudos to the players for making this run-out happened! And in great fun and humourous spirit too! Football-wise, there were some good goals, how about Kelvin's slalom run for the pick of the bunch(?), good close ball control skills, some nifty 1-touch passing and solid teamwork at times. There were plenty of laughs and excitement and all in all, I am sure all of us had fun!
