No game for Kambing FC this week but look out for the League Cup Group J match between Casanova XI and FC Tempastella; the latter vying for top spot as group winners and automatic qualifying spot, the former playing for pride.
Table as of last round of results. Reminder that only the top 12 group winners qualify automatically for the 2nd round and next 4 best runner-ups among the 12 groups will join them. I quote from the rules:
"To level the competition; in a situation where the best 4 runners-up have the same points, goal difference and goal scored, the team with the lower placing in the league will progress to the next round. This also means that if both teams are from the same division, the team that is lower placed than the other will move on. D2D hopes that lower-placed teams either in placing or divisions would strive to compete with higher-placed teams in this League Cup tournament."
This also applies within the group itself. We have four points, scored 6 goals and have a +1 goal difference. FC Tempastella has 1 point, scored 4 goals and nil goal difference. Of course, we pray that Casanova XI do us a favor by beating FC Tempastella or holding them to a draw at least. However, a 1-0 or 2-1 win for FC Tempastella will also ensure we finish top by account of goals scored or being the lower-placed team (as FC Tempastella are above us in Division 2) respectively.
A 2-goal margin victory or more for FC Tempastella will mean we finish behind them in Group J and leave our fate to the results from the other groups as told here. Any other 1-goal margin victory (apart from 1-0 or 2-1) for FC Tempastella will see us lose out on goals scored as well.
What is almost certain though, barring a incredulous fate, we should certainly qualify anyway.
Looking at the bigger picture then, should we qualify as group winners, a battle with Group I winners; either Div 4 Team Tsubasa or our Div 3 conquerors in our earlier match this season 1980s United FC awaits. Should we end up as one of the best 4 runners-up, take the Goliath's pick of Giants to slay from Group A (Div 1's league leaders Team BI or maybe Div 3's own Industmarine Football), from Group B (almost certainly Div 2's magnificent 7-for-7 so far Holland Park or if they are heavily upset in their last group match against Sacofargo, Div 1's Oogleee Boys will take the mantle on goals difference), from Group C (the group is still wide open with Div 1's Nitroz, Div 2's KB United or familiar foes Div 4's Sporting Goras) and from Group D (Div 1's Apex Rangers's destiny hinging on the match between Div 2's Huat FC and Div 4's Unido FC).
Rubbing your heads or your hands? Me too. In utter headache as well as in glee. As long as we go through to the 2nd round, I do not mind rubbing my head till I go bald although my girlfriend will not like that one bit. But where rubbing hands in glee are concerned, Kambing FC may not be setting foot on the green this week but I, for one, am certainly going to log on to the cybernet for the results come Monday afternoon. Kambing FC aims to win this tournament. No doubt about it.
