Yet another Sunday, yet another D2D league match for KFC. The opponents this time were Forza Ze East. KFC players were instructed to contain Forza's attacks, as they had just beaten Sarcofago, 9-0. KFC started with a 4-3-3 formation with Bay, Firul and Amin making returns, at the keeper, left back and centre midfield positions respectively.

As usual, KFC made a bright start to the game, with Helmi making several runs against his marker. However, KFC were not able to make any inroads on the opponents’ goal as, either the final pass was lacking or Farhan, our lone striker, was crowded out by defenders. Soon Forza’s greater experience showed as their midfielders began to dominate, playing many through passes down the wings which were fortunately cleared by KFC's defence. The tackles were flying in too, as Rahman tried to stop Forza’s midfielders with his tenacity, and Amin with his speed and strength. Muhammad though was having a tough time as he seemed to have been pin-pointed as our dangerman, and was on the receiving end of one too many crunching tackles. KFC’s full backs, Shafi and Firul too were putting in an excellent shift, especially the latter who repeatedly stopped Forza’s right winger from ole-ing him. Akim and Amin, together with Bay, were vital in preventing the opponents from scoring, covering for each other when required. In contrast, KFC’s right winger, Kelvin, was having an awful outing, at one point completely missing the ball when making a clearance. He was rightly substituted by Omar, who worked in tandem with Shafi to stop the threat of Forza’s left winger, as well as supply crosses into the Forza area which caused nervous moments for the opponents’ defence.

More substitutions then took place as Azhari, Azman, Calvin, Firdaus and Huang took to the field. Just as the aforementioned players were acclimatizing themselves with the tempo of the game, Forza drew first blood. A short goal kick from KFC was picked up by one of their attackers, who showed great skill to chip the ball into goal. 1-0 to Forza. However, KFC did not let that demoralize them. Azhari was making a huge impact on the field, tackling, intercepting as well as linking up well with the attackers. One such play on the left between Huang and Azhari led to the latter having a one on one chance with Forza’s keeper. Unfortunately, Azhari could not get a good connection on the ball, which was struck straight at the keeper. The second goal for Forza arrived through a quick counter attack. A long ball out of their defence was taken down expertly by their right winger, who eased past 3 KFC players before unleashing a thunderbolt, which Bay got a hand to but was ultimately unable to keep from going into goal. But the half couldn’t end without one of Bay’s trademark heroic moments. An attack down the left saw Forza’s striker break through again but this time, he was foiled by Bay, who dived bravely at the ball, and saving it cleanly. Half time soon approached as KFC gathered to discuss tactics to prepare for a second half fight back.

The second half began with Helmi yet again displaying great impetus attacking the opposition’s right back, while Rahman was snapping at the heels of anyone Forza player that ventured near KFC’s penalty area. Akim decided to let Amin (def) and Calvin play the rest of the second half to build up their understanding, and bar the one goal that was conceded in the second half, both of them acquitted themselves excellently. Forza was still making several forages into KFC’s half but their strikers were guilty of missing some gilt edged chances until the third goal was converted. Yet another lightning quick raid into KFC’s box caused confusion amongst the ranks of KFC’s defence and one of Forza’s strikers was first to react to a loose ball to tap into goal.

Yet again the substitutions took place as Muhammad was switched into the striker’s position. His expertise as a lone front man were on full display as he caused endless problems for Forza’s defenders, be it his timing of his runs or his acceleration. Bar a few disputable offside calls, Muhammad would have already scored for KFC. However, he was not to be denied as a brilliant pass by Azman found Muhammad in the area. The latter controlled the ball on his chest before calmly slotting the ball into goal to cap off an excellent build up.

There were to be no more goals before the referee blew for the full time whistle, as KFC slumped to their third defeat in as many games. However the season is still young, and it should be just a matter of time before KFC start climbing up the table again in what is turning out to be a tight Division 3.
