Coming into the game with fresh memories of being on the wrong end of a 5-2 defeat which on all accounts was flattering for the visitors, Kambing Fc was seeking to pu right their preparations for the new season with a confidence boosting result.

KFC featured a new 4-3-3 formation (which in reality was still a 4-5-1 with the wingers given more authority to prey on the opposite defence) designed to add on to the team's attacking prowess. This formation was drawn up in mind to solve our lack of potency in attack, whilst bearing in mind of the added responsibilities of the fullbacks to contain any opposing attacks without much support from their fellow wingers.

Bishan Park was a hard, bouncy uneven ground with complementary potholes all over. Not a pitch to execute short passes nor receiving them, this match promised a drawn out midfield affair, with neither side stringing more than a few passes of their own in consecutive order. However, it was not really the case, and after a short spell for the opposition in the early minutes, it was evident that our side was seizing the initiative. Our left flank foraged up front many times and it was clear that they found our wingers hard to contain. Our dominance on the flanks made space for the team in other departments, and we showed authority, though a few lapses of concentration found ourselves sometimes inches wide of shooting ourselves in the foot. They showed no real desire to press for the ball outside thier own half for fear of being exposed on the flanks, with a particularly industrious combination of Farhan and Helmi zipping past their wings like a hot knife through butter.

It wasnt long till our time spent on the flanks started to bear fruit. A cross led to the opposite Gk spilling the ball before Azman gleefully sprung into action in hope of netting it, only to send the ball back for a defender's clearance for a corner. the resulting corner KFC made no mistake as Fazli sent a cross towards the far post for a late running Rashid to knock it back goalwards and beyond touch of anyone. 1-0 was the score. Just a while later, another cross from the right from Mustaqium led to the keeper resorting to a half hearted redirection of the ball, before an outstretched Huang laid his head to guide the ball to its path to the back of the net.

This was one of the few games where we did manage to control the tempo of the game, at least in the first half. Soon we got our third goal, and given our unusual dominance in the air, it would not be surprising to note that the goal came from another corner. The ball glided to the heart of of the penalty area, and Kelvin sprung to force the ball to the right side of the goal with a header that would make Shearer proud. The half ended with us being 3 goals to the good,

The opposition did not mount any serious threat of a comeback, but they came close. It was little credit on their part though for the goals that they stole were our own design; The defence gave a few eerie moments not for the faint hearted, and in the first half at times showed an arrogant complacency to take the game for done. They clawed their way back to 3-2, and it was a poorly dealt long punt and corner kick, semmingly harmless, that almost undid our good work. Sensing blood, the opposition pressed harder to force our self destruction, but we responded in good fashion. We reinstalled our 3 goal advantage with another great header from Huang to deflate any hopes of a comeback, before a delightful execution of a free kick by Mustaqium to let Azhari nod a square on ball to Azman before he dispatched it with real conviction this time around to the back of the net. 5- 2 was the scoreline where we saw the bes and the worst of us in the game. this time around lady luck was on our side. the aerial battle was key to both our supremacy and almost collapse.

With new teams chasing for the honours in Division 4, we are in unknown territory yet again, and seek to prove our worth in the league. They seem to be good. We aim to be at our best no matter what happens.

Notes

-Amin the CB, made his debut for team, after featuring last season for LA CALLE DOCE FUTBOLISTA. he had an influential game, and made a great last ditched saving clearance, giving some stability to an otherwise nervy showing from the defence department.

-Azhari and Azman combined well for the last goal, and the two CMs had a very good game, both looking sharp for the new season.

-I think we finally let the Lontong demons, Rendang devils and all festive GOODIES to rest. Hopefully they are out of our system by now....... lets see how we test against the new tougher opponents this season.

Recap of goals

1-0: Fazli's crossfield pass from the left, found Muhammad, with Kelvin acting as decoy. Muhammad with a simple pass to me (Akim) on the right flank. My cross was floated for Huang's predatory instinct to meet with an header into goal. Simple.

2-0: Fazli's corner from the left sailed towards the far post. Rashid's header back across goal into the net was powerful enough to elude everyone.

3-0: Muhammad's corner from the right seemed harmless when it went towards the near post. But Kelvin's darting run, a good lesson for all, allowed him to meet the cross with a brilliant header into the roof of the net despite his marker's challenge.

4-2: After our opponents pulled back 2 goals to inject unwanted excitement to the scoreline to make it 3-2, Kelvin was fouled outside the box from way out. I assessed the free-kick situation but decided it was out of range. Instead, I chipped-crossed it towards Azhari, which was a little too high to control but he managed to drop it for Azman. Unintentional perhaps but Azman's run into the box was telling. Azman struck the ball cleanly low beneath the GK's reach.

5-2: From my throw-in deep in the opponents' half, Kelvin was able to turn his marker and he could have struck with his left foot. Azman tried a shot on goal but it was blocked by a defender and sailed high into the air. Huang again used his predatory instinct and despite the GK's challenge, he managed to loop it into an empty net - with his head again!
