The sporting Goras fixture marked the end of our maiden semi-competitive campaign, and it wouldn’t take much of a laboured guess to assume a highly anticipated and psyched up game at least for KFC, after taking in consideration of the two week or so break before our last league fixture and also the last encounter we had against them, where we comfortably eased past Sporting Goras with a 2-0 scoreline.
It would seem elementary then that we again repeat history, barring the fact that player fatigue would seem to be a real danger all of us are truly aware of considering the festive Muslim month of Ramadhan where intake of fluids for our Muslim players which make up an unmistakable majority of the team are forbidden. Weather favoured us that day as the scorching heat of the sun stayed away making life 10x easier for many on the field, given the faster paced and wide surface which characterized the astro-turfed pitch at Orchid Park.
The game started largely uneventful in the first half, which I missed because of a major technical mishap on my part. From where I was and observed neither team really had much of a dominating control over the other but rather early on in the first half, Imran managed to apply a finish from a ball played from the left (possibly from Farhan) to get the team ahead. Sporting Goras responded with renewed vigour, and injected more a sense of purpose in their attack. A breakaway on our right flank for the Sporting goras saw a powerful, well executed shot go well over beyond means of our custodian only to agonizingly crash to the crossbar, confirming that the Goras could indeed cook up something out of the blue. WE HAD TO BE ON OUR TOES AS THAT WAS CLOSE!
The defence wasn’t sitting back anymore and now was getting more committed to let the Goras attackers know of their presence. Rashid was probably the chief of it all, demonstrating a few of the most uncompromising tackles to let the Goras be known and possibly wary of his presence. Other than that things were kept sane and efficient with Kambings moving the ball around a lot more than we would have in our other games.
The second half was exacted in similar fashion by both teams with neither having the upper hand. The ball was swung back and forth, back and forth and both keepers weren’t really tested as much as they should have. However, towards the very end of the second half the Kambing attack got noticeably fatigued, giving the Goras initiative, which they failed to capitalize. They had a chance, springing a quick deliberate attack on our right flank but as luck would have it Wilson was well place to intervene the ball in its path towards goal. Some trickery on the left managed the Goras a sniff at goal in the penalty area, but the defence, though got a bit desperate, managed to slide away for a corner, frustrating the Goras attack which only have to settle for a hopeful glance at the referee in the hope of the unlikeliest of decisions. Their main man Yogi was stifled by various Kambings, and wasn’t given much time nor space on the ball which further explains the lack of any potential danger posed by the Goras attack even though their determination to punch through our lines was evident. In the end, Kambing FC managed to secure victory through a 1-0 business like approach.
Notes.
Kelvin performed admirably in the fixture, providing some hard running which at many times caused panic in the Goras defence whilst also demonstrating his ability as the transient between attack and defence.
Azman had a good game in especially in his distributions, though lacked steam before being substituted towards the end of second half.
The wing backs (Karim, Yazier, Helmi) in the game worked well with the partnership of Rashid and Mus to disallow any beneficiaries to the few raids Goras had on the flanks, if any.
Helmi played LEFT BACK! His adaptabillity showed his value to the team. He has played everywhere for the team, save for centre back and GK now (the only one to have played on all positions in the team is MUS)... haha
Muhd was injured when he landed himself wrongly (?????) twisting his ankle in the first half… OUCH!
The Kambing attack combined well managing to hold the ball well up front even in enemy territory. Penetration through both flanks of the Goras defence got them troubled.
I caught Huang using his head on the SHAKY SHAKY VIDEO!!!! How rare is that?
Wilson and Rashid was reunited again, this time they managed keep a clean sheet, of course with the huge huge help of the people in the Kambing defensive unit.
This game is the first game for Yazier appearing for us as an outfielder
