After a week break playing 11 a-side football, Kambing Fc finally came back to its 'home ground' where many of our players first joined the Kambings in action. The Yishun field that was once called 'the desert' was where we started to ply our football, and since then we have came and seen many other pitches, some better, some worse. If we could we would stay away from that pitch, being noteworthy that many have voiced concerns over the playability of the pitch, and the much worse Tampines one.
However, Yishun was returfed, and it definitely gave the pitch a newer lease of life. Coming back to Yishun gave back the memories some of us hold in our hearts, as before we began venturing to other fields, Yishun was almost the only pitch we could play week in week out football. Our 'abandonment' (or was it 'it' abondoned us after its closure??) of the pitch perhaps left me a little guilt stricken and perhaps we shall never forget our roots and what we stand for playing our football.
This time we played against the Airport Police team clad in their Black kit, featuring Rafi, a player that has represented us before during one of our very first few matches. We started confidently playing the ball around, passing and keeping posession of the ball, and making them work for it. A few breaks were made on the flanks, but then the team lost momentum and initiative for the match. The AP team piled on the pressure and we responded in kind with nervy defending that could barely manage to clear our ranks, but often not enough for our midfield to effectively find our attackers to break through. To be honest, we should have really fallen behind but woeful finishing and good goalkeeping from Wilson managed to force the scoresheet clean. We managed to go into the break level.
Some midfield restructuring was made to make the team a little bit more competitive in the second half, but lack of teamplay or communication perhaps caused our weak play as a unit. THe opponents were scattering ourselves crazy and that was quite the story for the early and mid part of the half. A fortuitous break (though they had it coming) saw the AP attacker squeeze past our defence line to drive home the winner, and we finally found ourselves a goal down.
The last few minutes of the match was a desperate search for an equaliser with Desmond making a good debut, and for the first time in the second half we took the opportunity to pile on the pressure. I had the chance to equalise for the team, placing my shot to the right of the post after a nod down by Huang from a Syafiq cross, but the shot was not driven well enough with any conviction to actually put the GK in any real danger. THe match ended 0-1 against us and it was a good showing by the team, with a stellar goalkeeping performance that kept the scoreline respectable for us.
Maybe another time we might actually come back to Yishun with a victory to celebrate our achievements since.
